Job Overview:
The role of the Audio Support Engineer is to support strategic customers on the implementation of QUALCOMMs audio intellectual property or assist with the application of audio algorithmic solutions with the emphasis on tuning Ambient Noise Cancellation implementations.
This Engineer will typically be recognized as an expert in a technology area such as acoustics or DSP audio processing as applied to voice and music consumer products. The position also calls for development in Matlab for debug, tools and GUIs, embedded C, and scripting languages such as python.
The successful candidate must be self-reliant and able to take ownership of projects with minimal supervision.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tuning customer implementations of QUALCOMMs ANC, and managing resolution of issues found during testing.
Acting technical expert, ensuring that the customer and internal personnel have a comprehensive understanding of QUALCOMM deliverables.
Provide technical leadership to remove audio and algorithmic related obstacles allowing products to reach the market as quickly as possible.
Priorities, diagnose and resolve audio problems both from assigned customers and issues from within the group. Simultaneously manage the customer to ensure expectations are set and all necessary information is conveyed.
Provide international customer support, communication liaison, technical training, audio tuning assistance or conduct conference papers as required by the assigned projects.
Conduct competitive benchmarking and tuning optimization of the audio performance on customer products and prototypes.
Author technical documentation, application notes and industrial design guidelines to support customers over and above the standard released user guides / data sheets.
Perform requirements capture including defining the scope, tasks, estimation, reporting and project management.
Recognized and provide customer feedback to marketing on new business opportunities, specifications, requirements and features that could influence QUALCOMMs next generation wireless chips, product developments or example designs.
Qualifications:
1+ years experience with debugging techniques.
1+ years experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
1+ years of Acoustic experience
Familiarity with test, development and application of audio integrated circuits
Experience with electro-acoustic testing using a HATS, specifically testing of headphones and headsets
Experience with ambient noise cancellation technology
Experience with audio test systems such as Audio Precision, Sound Check, and/or DScope
Knowledge of acoustical design principles for headphone and earbuds
Experience with automated test systems for audio, both with respect to R&D and production test
Experience with standard interfaces and peripherals such as DAC, ADC, S/PDIF, SPI, I2C, and I2S.
Critical listening skills, ability to subjectively evaluate audio quality of speakers, headphones, and audio processing
Ability to create prototypes, demos, or reference designs for consumer audio products
